Make your python program run like an Application In Linux

July 29, 2010 at 2:01 pm (Python)

Try this:
Type: $ firefox

This code opens up the firefox installed in our machine.

In a similar fashion, you can make your .py program to run like an application.

Ok, lets do this for our helloworld.py program
Do
$ echo $PATH
usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games

This shows the path where executables are present in our machine. We can copy our program in a location and can run it.

for that,
$ cp helloworld.py /usr/local/bin/helloworld
$ helloworld
Hello World

Yay Its done. In similar way you can make any of your python program run like an application.

With respect to Python, a program or a script or software all mean the same thing.
